Latanoprost is a medication used to treat high pressure inside the eye, such as in ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. It belongs to a class of drugs called prostaglandin analogues and works by increasing the drainage of aqueous fluid from the eye. Applied as an eye drop, its effects begin within about four hours and last for up to a day.
First approved in 1996, it is now widely available as a generic medication and is also found in fixed-dose combinations with other drugs like timolol.
