Bovine Collagen

Bovine Collagen

Collagen is the main structural protein in the extracellular matrix of a body’s various tissues. As the main component of connective tissue, it is the most abundant protein in mammals, constituting 25% to 35% of a mammalian body’s total protein content. Tropocollagen molecules are bound together to form a complex of elongated fibrils known as a collagen fiber. This protein is primarily found in connective tissues such as skin, bone, tendons, cartilage, and ligaments. Vitamin C is vital for collagen synthesis, and specific amino acids (such as glycine and proline) enhance its production.

Although the term ‘bovine’ can refer to cows, yaks, antelopes, bison, or water buffalo, bovine collagen primarily comes from cows. It is produced by boiling cow bones, connective tissue, cartilage, or hides in water; the collagen is subsequently extracted, dried, and processed into a powdered form.
