Brinzolamide

Brinzolamide is an active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) used primarily in ophthalmic solutions to treat elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. It belongs to the sulfonamide class and functions as a potent, selective inhibitor of the carbonic anhydrase II enzyme.

This mechanism of action reduces the production of aqueous humor within the eye, thereby effectively lowering internal pressure. It is known for providing an alternative therapeutic option for patients who may not adequately respond to or tolerate other intraocular pressure-lowering medications.
